***Warning Spoilers Below This Point***

The story revolves around a man named Jim Parsons a physician by profession, dedicated and loyal to his job treating the diseased bodies living in the year 2012.

The story starts when somehow Parsons experience time travel when the year is 2405. The world he sees looks advanced, terrible and immoral where there is no concept of natural births and the death of unfit and weak people becomes preferred. A building exist called the Fountain where they keep all the zygotes waiting for incubation. As any member of society dies, a new life comes into existence.

Reproduction remains strictly controlled by genetic programming of the embryos to ensure a perfect generation. Physical appearance and perfection reign over society, and there is no concept of individuality. In this malicious environment, the profession of doctors and healers is in disdain and scorn.

The story takes a turn when Parsons cures a dying woman and becomes sentenced for expatriation to Mars by a man Chancellor Al Steong.
