***Warning Spoilers Below This Point***
The author set the Old Men at the Zoo in the future, from the period of 1970 to 1973. They consider this novel as the most symbolic work by Angus Wilson. The book covers the story of a failed attempt to reserve the wild animals. Simon Carter is responsible to protect the animals. He is the secretary of the London Zoo. He is in power, but the game remains complicated because it brings him near to violence and described satirically in the first part of the book.
The second part of the book covers the fantasy of the war. It is rather a brutal story where men are trying to heal their broken relationship with the natural environment and especially wild animals. This might offer the only solution to the sustainability of the planet in the future. The book basically covers the event just before a nuclear attack on London during a war. The event resulted in the post-apocalyptic dystopian dictatorship. However, rescue arrived soon.
This novel covers the reality of the world in a particularly brutal way. The only way for us to survive in a stronger future is to rehabilitate our relationship with wild animals. Although the novel is a little vague, hence it received my ratings of 6.2 out of 10. Would I re-read this novel? No. Am I glad I read it? No.
