Review, Synopsis, and Summary of the Novel Oryx and Crake

“Oryx and Crake” is written by the famous writer Margaret Atwood. Like always and like her every story, this one was equally fantastic. It was published in the year 2003 and surely amazed every one of its readers at that time. The story is a great amalgamation of genetic engineering and the possibilities of how mankind can be transformed in the near future.

Review and Summary of the Dystopian Novel Oryx and Crake

***Warning Spoilers Below This Point***

Snowman is the main character of this novel, who was once called Jimmy. He is the last man alive and surely he is endangered but he fights against the dangerous and life-threatening giants who have taken over mankind and they have destroyed the humans for the sake of their benefits of genetic engineering and advancements.

However, Snowman is not someone they can scare away and he fights for the revenge of his best friend named Crake. He lost his life fighting the battle of mankind but the snowman is not ready to give up on his bloodshed that easily. Although his own life is in danger he is not ready to give up on his mission of finding the real culprits nor will he let go his best friends blood without an act of revenge.

Oryx was none other than the love of Crake and Jimmy both and they both loved her unconditionally but unfortunately, she also couldn’t make it and lost her life. Now Jimmy is on his hunt to find the real cause of their death and to take the revenge from the killers. Along with Jimmy, Crake’s kids are also in search of the killers but they are unique because of their blue-eyed abilities.

Final Thoughts on the Dystopian Novel Oryx and Crake

Margaret Atwood has amazed the world with her writing abilities and this story is one of a kind which is so realistic at times, we forget that it’s a futuristic story and not of the present time. The story shows a journey of battling for survival after the apocalypse and a voyage of taking revenge for the death of loved ones. It’s an exceptional story with a lot of different emotions and expressed feelings. I have given this story an 8.5 because of the realistic approach. I will definitely read this story again and keep it as part of my collections.
