Review and Summary of Science Fiction Novel Our Friends from Frolix 8

The story happens in the 22nd century and the world is ruled by two classes of men, the “New Men” who are the oddities with remarkable and outstanding IQs and the “Unusuals” who have significant, bizarre and extraordinary abilities like intuition, telekinesis and clairvoyance. The rest of the people who make up the bulk of Earth’s billions, the “Old Men” became restricted from any government and civil service employments and had to earn their living from their own low-key labour positions.

In the book, Nick Appleton is one of the old men shaken out of his monotonous existence. Bobby his son fails a civil service test after Appleton had high hopes that his son would qualify for New Men training. Bobby becomes rebellious and anti-government and meets a 16-year-old tomboy named Charlotte. Willis Gram represents the Chairman of the Telepathy Council of Earth and develops an interest in Charlotte.

The council and the authorities came to know about the subversion apprehend them. Thors Provoni, a rebel who left the earth in an old space ship many years ago, seek help. Mankind is returning with a “90-ton gelatinous mass of protoplasmic soul” being a “Friend from Frolix 8” known as Morgo Rahn Wilc to fight for the Old Men. The craft dodges the Terran fleet securities and Provoni’s stress increases.

With all the trepidations and terrors of foreign invasion on the ruling class, Provoni lands on the Earth with the backing of his alien friend. As the story moves forward, Morgo saves him from assassination attempts and Provoni makes the New Men and Unusual deprived of their abilities and powers.

Final Say on Science Fiction Novel Our Friends from Frolix 8

Philip K. Dick invested a lot of effort in his science fiction novel, even adding emotions and depth to the characters of the book. The book covers a good story with a touch of imagination, technology, future world and even beyond the earth taking the readers into the galaxy worlds. I rated the novel 7.2 out of 10 because of the continuous and interesting storyline. Would I re-read this novel? No. Am I glad I read it? Yes.
