The popular German author, Eugen Richter, wrote the dystopian fiction novel, Pictures of the Socialistic Future focused on the German communist movement. He described the circumstances before and after the revolution.
The story of the novel starts with the main protagonist loyal to the government of that time. He thought whatever the government do, will be for their wellbeing. But they proved him wrong when he saw that the government adopted a corrupt character during the time. A significant increase in the price of various goods happened.
The protagonist noticed corruption everywhere, and the moral values of people decreased. He became more distressed when his daughter died because of ill-treatment in one of the government boarding houses. His mental state deteriorated, and he took retirement and imprisoned himself in the house. His wife also loses her mental stability. Day by day the corruption becomes more critical and the food quality decreases.
Police took the law in their hands and made walls against a riot. The most striking feature of the novel is that the author wrote it twenty years before the economic Socialist approach. The novel also demonstrated the situation in Germany.
The dystopian fiction novel, Pictures of the Socialistic Future, became a masterpiece of the famous novelist, Eugen Richter. In this novel, he displayed the situation when revolution takes place. The book highlights the complexities when governments attempt to rule over people and remove their freedom. While reading this novel, readers understand the real effects of a revolution, war and the after-effects because of it. I rate this novel 8.9 out of 10. Would I re-read the novel? Yes.
