“Insurgent” by Veronica Roth is the second book in the Divergent trilogy. The continuation begins with Tris, Caleb, Tobias (aka Four), Peter, and Marcus get on a train and are going to Amity where they will hide for some time. Tris cuts her hair really short which was her final transition to “Dauntless”. She was struggling with her identity after she shot her friend Will.

The team reach the Amity compound, the group meeting Johanna Reyes, a beautiful woman and the spokeswoman for the compound. She told the friends that they can stay there for the night and take Amity as a shelter for themselves. The next morning Tris and Tobias resolute that they must trace Marcus, who was Tobias’s father, who knows more than he’s telling.
Peter tries to steal the hard disk from Trish and in return, Tris fights with him and the fight almost kills Peter. Any kind of violence was not allowed in the Amity premises and they injected the “peace serum” into Tris which made her not think properly. The group was then told to leave after this incident happened.
The compound was attacked by the dauntless soldiers which were led by Eric who also tries to seize Tris but she managed to stab him with her knife. Caleb aligned himself with the erudite leader. Condors decided on a meeting to prevail peace among all factions. Tris and Tobias spied and their relationship grew stronger.
Jeanie activates a sim drug which made Marlene commit suicide and she said that more Dauntless will commit suicide if Tris doesn’t go to Erudite headquarters. Jeanie had Tris now and the latter was made to go through many tests which were very painful. Caleb and Peter who betrayed Tris were involved in the tests as well. Tris was rescued by her brother and was taken to factionless HQ where she had to make an option to join Tobias’s mother or to find Marcus. While celebrating back at their factionless headquarters, Evelyn unveils her eventual plan that she will end the faction system.
Marcus was found and he then ran a tape where a woman was on it named Edith and said that this was a huge experiment to save mankind and end-all kind of wars. She looked like Tris’s mother’s younger version. They wanted to produce divergent thinkers. It is revealed that Jeanine knew this all along as she was also one of the experiment’s founders. The video shocked Tris and Tobias. They realize that the divergent, like themselves, were destined to play a greater role in the recovery of mankind.
In my opinion, The novel is a great addition to the trilogy but still falls short of delivering the rich content that the block-buster ‘’Divergent’’ of the series has done. I really liked this story and I will likely read it again.
