The City of Beszel is located in the coastal area of Europe somewhere on the edge of the continent and contains geographic importance as well. The City is a busy place and also the home of many people who became used to the occurrence of regular murders in the area.
Tyador Borlú is a police officer working as part of a specialised crime squad. His life turned upside down when he received a murder case of a woman who died in the city of Beszel. Initially, he takes it as a regular murder case but as the event starts to unfold, he develops an understanding of the complexity of this murder and the story begins.
To find the real culprits he begins his life-threatening and extremely dangerous journey which expects him to travel to a different city named Ul Qoma. The reason for Ul Qoma being so threatful is that it is considered to be a rivalry place similar to the City of Beszel.
Qussim Dhat is a detective from the city of Ul Qoma and helps Tyador Borlu in finding the murderers and solving the mystery. As the reality appears they are shocked to know how their cities are in danger by one enemy who is the murderer as well. The underworld of Rabid nationalists is the person behind all of this and he is an enemy to both the Beszel and Ul Qoma.
