Lina May Fleet and Don Harrow, the two main characters, accidentally discovered the manual when they carried out their roles for a school function. Lina’s younger sister chews the instruction pages because she is teething and leaving them indecipherable. Following the two teenager’s mind-blowing and exciting journey to save the residents of the city before it was too late, the readers gain a grip over the world of fantasy, adventure and mystery.
They need to find out about the ways and routes that will allow the residents to safety, but their path is difficult. They face resistance from the government and the citizens themselves before they convince them of the truth and the extent of their looming dark future. With overcoming many obstacles, the duo finally escaped from the city and send a message to the remaining people of the city for safety. Will the people see the message and act accordingly?
The City of Ember, a highly acclaimed novel, transports us to a different world full of human persistence and efforts to make things right even if there is no hope left. It is a complete package of harrowing adventures, secret messages that needs decoding with an enthralling storyline. Because the novel was so good, it fascinated me until the end.
