Review, Synopsis, and Summary of the Young adult Fiction The Death Cure

The Death Cure written by an American writer, James Dashner, is the 3rd book in The Maze Runner series. This novel offers a combination of mixed emotions and thrill where Thomas, Minho and Newt became a golden trio. Like his every other novel, James invested all his efforts and skills in this novel as well. It’s a young adult-fiction based story, which is worth the time reading.

Review and Summary of the Novel The Death Cure

***Warning Spoilers Below This Point***

Janson is the main lead of this novel who releases Thomas from solitary confinement and tells the Gladers that most of their members are resistant to flare, although others are not. He also tells the name of the ones immune to it. Here, Thomas learns that his friend Newt is not immune to the Flare.

Wicked offers to remove their mind-control chips from their heads, but Thomas, Minho and Newt escaped with the fear of undergoing surgery. The process involves a disconnect from their telepathic connection with Teresa and ultimately the desire to find the cure. Later on, Thomas comes to know that Brenda and Jorge work for Wicked and turned against them, but ultimately Brenda asks for forgiveness.

They all proceed to find the one who could remove their mind-control chips. Ultimately, they discover Gally who reveals that Wicked used every immune. He also tells them about a drug named ‘’Bliss’’ that relieves the pain and slows down the brain functioning of those attacked by the Flare. They notice Hans, who removes Minho’s and Thomas’s chips.

Later on, they had surrendered Newt to the Cranks as the group cannot rescue him. Newt becomes the victim of the flare, and Thomas shoots him to save others. They also discover Teresa, and other “immunes”, but she dies saving Thomas’s life. This happened while all the “immunes” escape their trial and slip away to a paradise.

Final Say on the Novel The Death Cure

The Death Cure is a remaining journey of the Gladers to find the deadly disease treatment to prevent individuals from suffering ‘’Flare’’. It is full of adventure where Thomas and the “immunes” finally escape one more trial. It is not the best book of the series and not as promising as ‘’The Scorch Trial’’.

I think the characterisation could be richer with more meaning in the plot. However, I rated it as 7 out of 10 because of the unusual storyline.
