Review and Summary of The Science Fiction Novel The Last Star

***Warning Spoilers Below This Point***

The Last Star

The Last Star is the concluding book to the story of Cassiopeia Marrie Sullivan, a 16-year-old girl nicknamed Cassie, who struggles and finally succeeds in her mission against the aliens named as The Others in the book. The first two parts of the book portray an Earth experiencing an alien invasion and humanity on the verge of becoming extinct. Under these circumstances, Cassie, her younger brother Sammy (nicknamed Nugget), her old school friend Bob (nicknamed Zombie), a girl Marika (nicknamed Ringer) and Evan Walker a Silencer (a human implanted with alien technology) discover the hidden reality of Wright Patterson AFB.

They know Wright Patterson AFB to be an organisation against the Others in which they hired the young children as their soldiers. Later, they revealed this organisation as a set-up of the Others governed by Colonel Alexandar Vosch working against humanity.

The Last Star concludes the struggle against the Others. The book starts with Cassie, Nugget, Bob, and other human survivors hiding in the cavern near Ohio. Vosch sends Ringer along with another girl Silencer named Constance on a mission to capture Evan as he betrayed the Others by falling in love with Cassie. As the story proceeds, Bob meets Ringer and Constance and guides them to the safe house where they were hiding. Constance tries to murder Evan but eventually killed by Nugget.

Ringer tells Cassie that Vosch will soon know about all this as Constance is no more activated and expects a helicopter to attack them. To save Cassie and others, Evan sacrificed himself and surrenders him to the troops sent by Vosch. As they bring Evan back to Vosch, they remove Evan’s human memories. They also convert him into a mad and even more powerful silencer. Meanwhile, Cassie and Ringer travel to the Vosch base, to destroy him and stop his evil mission against humanity.

The story takes many twists and turns with Cassie and Ringer reaching the base. Cassie downloads all the memories from the Vosch database into her brain. Ringer gets injured fighting Evan and Vosch, but Cassie finally kills them. After this, Cassie comes to the mothership, shocked to see all the bombs planned to destroy Earth. She eats a pill she gets from Ringer’s clothes, which kills everything in a five-mile radius.

Thus, ending her own life saving the whole humanity from becoming extinct. Later, news became evident of Evan’s survival from electrocution because of his alien technology. The story ends with Nugget asking Bob about her sister Cassiopeia. Bob points towards the three stars in the sky telling that constellation Cassiopeia is sitting on these stars as her throne and so is Cassie, sitting and watching us all from the same position.
