Review and Summary of Science Fiction Novel The Sheep Look Up

***Warning Spoilers Below This Point***

The author sets this novel in a future dystopian world. Some interesting facts about this book relate to the multi-strand narratives. Most of the figures in the book never get to see each other. Some characters in the book appear in only one or two sections. Instead of chapters, the author divides the book into sections.

The main plot of the novel covers the story of suspect cases of deliberate poisoning by U. S based Bamberely Trust Corporation. This corporation supplies relief food to Africa and Central America. Poisoned food affects people by starting homicidal madness in anyone who eats it. The corporation prepared this food to weaken the local government and exploit the natural resources of affected countries.

No evidence exists of deliberate food poisoning. Just as they resolve the case, there is an epidemic of E. coli in the United States and millions of people become affected. Because water filtering systems cannot remove bacteria from freshwater and people cannot work, the authorities deliver the Nutripon relief food to their own country as food aid. As the story moves forward, they experience civil unrest because of poor health, sanitation, lack of resources and ineffectiveness of services in the United States. Birth defects also get higher in society.

Final Say on The Science Fiction Novel The Sheep Look Up

The author set the story to describe the deterioration of the world. The developed countries, and underdeveloped regions, deal with stigmas like industrial pollution which leads to deterioration of land. Also, affect freshwater resources, humans as well as livestock. The novel described these problems of the societies well, and hence it receives my ratings of 8 out of 10. Would I re-read this novel? Yes. Am I glad I read it? Yes.
