Anderson Lake is the main character of this novel, and the story revolves around him. He is working as a factory manager, but in reality, he is an undercover agent working for a company named AgriGen. He is working as their Calorie Man. It’s a story of the time where the world is having a war for food. Which he termed as bioterrorism.
They posted him to Thailand and there he is in search of finding some extinct calories or food. It’s a time where these resources are the new money and calories are the coin. He walks around the entire city in search of calories, but what catches his attention is an engineered woman.
Emiko a person who is not alone, but she is one of the many artificially created people. What caught his attention is her style as it expresses her as a beautiful woman. But sadly they considered being non-humans, artificial and heartless.
Paolo Bacigalupi is an amazing writer. Similar as to his other novels, this one won my heart too. Despite being a fictional story, Paolo created a strong plot, and I rated this novel an 8.5 out of 10. Will, I read this novel again? Yes, definitely, and I will keep it in my collection as well.
