Review and Summary of The Adventure Novel War in 2020

***Warning Spoilers Below This Point***

The book, published in 1991, is a dystopian war adventure novel. In the book, Captain George Taylor leads the apache gunship squadron of the US army to patrol over the Shaba province. The province gets devastated because of the attacks by South African gunships. It forces Taylor to murder his wounded gunner, and he runs. He finds an abandoned army camp and looks for the supplies to trek towards Kinshasa.

Taylor finds out that the attack on Shaba forms part of a bigger plan. Taylor returns to his home and became infected by a Runciman’s Disease, which scars his face badly. He finds out that most of the returned soldiers became affected by this disease. The disease transforms into a global pandemic. Countries like Japan quarantine themselves to stay free from the virus. After they destroy Shaba, a nuclear war starts in the Middle Eastern countries resulting in the devastation of Israel.

Taylor receives deployment by the US army to take part in different endeavours. One of his tasks includes deployment in Mexico to eradicate the Japanese-supported revolutionary government. Because of his amazing skills and tactics and his scarred face, he keeps the rebels fear-stricken.

The Soviet Union is about to collapse in the year 2020 because the Central Asian republics joining their forces with the Japanese supported Islamic nations. The US reorganized the 7th Heavy Cavalry Regiment (7HCR) under Colonel Taylor’s command to deal with the chaos. Like the story progresses, different events take place and Taylor dies in the line of his duty.

The book ends as they sign a peace treaty between the USSR and its enemies. The 7HCR receives presidential approval, but survivors leave and join other places because of their dissatisfaction with the new commanding officer.
