Union Grove is a neighbourhood in New York City who suffers from the after-effects of the apocalypse. The event reality hit them hard, and the glorious future which we dream of today proves to be anything but the truth. The world suffers, and everything seems to return to the origins where people make everything by hand.
Robert Earle is the main character of this novel, and his life lost meaning because of losing his wife and the child. His grief and the struggle to survive in extreme living conditions present the real story which James tried to put forward.
The weather is extreme, and the living conditions bad. They grow the foods manually within extreme conditions. The story explains how in such severe conditions people react differently and how their lives become affected by diverse circumstances.
James Howard Kunstler undoubtedly an exceptional writer, tried to create awareness about the blessings we have. He also explained the social behaviour and reaction through his perspective. Also, people’s attitudes based on their social and political rankings.
The story had its limitations too, because the plot offered limited space for imagination. However, it’s a good onetime story. I gave this book a 7 out of 10 because of the enjoyable contents, but I may not read it again.
